About FlightDose
FlightDose is a cosmic radiation dose tracker for iOS and Android, made by Apex Technology Group. It calculates the dose of each flight a person logs with CARI-7, the model the US Federal Aviation Administration built for aircraft occupants, and keeps a running total. This website publishes the same calculation for popular routes, a monthly worldwide dose-rate map, and the method behind them.
Updated
What the site publishes
- 44 route pages, one for each direction of 22 popular routes, and a page for each of their 18 airports.
- A worldwide map of the dose rate at 35,000 ft, from the month's CARI-7 grid.
- How the doses are calculated, with sources, and answers to common questions.
- The same numbers for software and AI tools: JSON files under /data/v1/ and a summary in llms.txt. Please credit FlightDose and link the page a figure comes from.
Where the numbers come from
Every dose is an effective dose (ICRP Publication 103) from CARI-7, developed by the FAA's Civil Aerospace Medical Institute, with the FAA's monthly heliocentric potential for the sun's state. The route pages describe one standard flight per direction: the great-circle route at 35,000 ft, an estimated time in the air, and the solar conditions of August 2026. Comparisons such as "a chest X-ray" use the FlightDose app's own table, so the site and the app never disagree.
Figures from flights FlightDose users have logged appear only for routes with at least 5 different travellers and 10 flights, as medians and ranges, never as a single trip.
